|
Best of the West, Say Some |
|
Out on the west coast, this is another simply gorgeous place to visit. It has a rocky coastline with dozens of islands form tiny rocks to large, well settled land masses. Two main towns - Ballina and Westport - with lots of lovely looking hills and mountains. The Nephin Beg range is stunning, Killary Harbour magical. Lots of outdoor activities to enjoy here, such as golf, game and sea fishing, pony trekking or just walking. |

Did You Know
The tiny village of Cong was taken over by Hollywood in 1951 when
John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara came to call. With director John
Ford, they made that delightful movie
The Quiet Man here. A roistering, happy film for which Ford well deserved his Oscar for best Director. To this day, you can take tours around the locations they used. A tip: if you can, watch the movie first and it'll all come to life when you get there.
In the 19th century, Charles Cunningham Boycott was an estate factor. He was so disliked that a system of social excommunication was established. From this action we get the verb 'to boycott''
There are 13 Blue Flag beaches in County Mayo. There are several circular drives around County Mayo. Probably the best one is from Ballina out to the wild coast around
Belmullet.
